Well, before the purchase of my new old Catalina 30 1985 the surveyor said mast needs to be grounded for lightning protection. The sailboat place quoted $1000 to do the job. Boat US said my insurance is contingent on this being done in 30time days. Could I some how run a 6 gauge solid copped wire from the chainplate to a keel bolt? If so is it possible together it through under the liner? Anyone done this. Any suggestions appreciated. Not enthusiastic about spending $1000 . Thank you. Tom

It should be 4 GA wire 6GA is for secondary bonding. $1000.00?? I'll do it for $800.00 and still make $700.00.......:D Wire should go from spar/mast step straight to keel bolt with minimal bends.

Can I assume Catalina does this directly from the factory. I bought my boat in 2007 and the survey said nothing about it nor did my insurance carrier?
