I have a 2007 H33 and would like to add a sail for light wind performance (something under 8 knots). I would prefer a sail that would favor more upwind performance rather than downwind. The best suggestions seem to be a code zero.

Has anyone installed one on a newer 33? If so, I'd be curious about how the tack was attached and where and how the sail performed.

I'm shopping for something similar, or at least a nice assymetrical.

A code 0 is a great sail.. It can take you in lighter breezes maybe 60 degrees AWA. So not beating but upwind reaching.

If this is to be your first/only free flying sail I would go with an asym on an adjustable tack line. Pulling the tack in straightens the luff and in light breezes you will be very happy with how high you can go. You get much more use out of it... A code 0 is a very specialized sail.

I have a North Sail Assymetrical that is supposed to be good for up to 50 degrees. When sailing that close in light winds it is really high maintenance. It likes 60 to 65 degrees much better. Downwind can be an issue with the main out due to the fractional rig. I normally keep the main in and fly the gennaker alone when downwind in light wind.

The tack connects just ahead of the forestay in the elongated hole. I have blocks with snap hooks that I just clip on. The tack runs back to the cockpit so that it can be easily adjusted.

Check out the Doyle UPS. It is pretty much a heavy drifter or a light #1 and works with its own furler.

I just looked at the Doyle UPS- seems to be the same as code zero, though doyle is boasting it can point 33A, which seems very high.

Has anyone installed one of these?
