lifting a boat

I am joining a new marina They have a electric lift and suggest lifting the boat with lifting points My hunter 19 as far as i can tell has none. They suggest placing chain shackles on Does anyone have experince lifting their boats this way. They do not have a harness to go under the hull Thanks

Remember that you have a keel down there. That keel is dead weight. It can be 300-400 pounds or up to 1000's of pounds depending on the size of your boat. Lifting the boat from pad eyes/lifting points on top of the deck will put a suggnificant amount of stress on the hull to deck joint and may cause it to pull apart. Not a good thing. The only way to lift a sailboat out of the water is with a sling or put it on a trailer.
