Lift for boom

So I stepped the mast and hussled to my mooring site to set mooring
anchors without rigging or setting boom. A dream tolm me something
was missing on the mast. It was the topping lift for the boom. It
is my first stepping and rigging of Procrastinator. Help! Do Vega's
even have a wire rope rigged from the top of the mast to the end of
the boom. What is the length? Is there something coming off the
boom to vary the height off the deck (ala my former Pearson)/ None
of the manual info seems to be clear on this...despite the name of
the boat, I really don't want to wait much longer to go sailing! It
gets to be winter too soon in MN.

hoist some one up the mast- there are 4 rollers, one for the mainsheet, one
for the jib sheet, one for the spinnaker and one for the topping lift.
Run some
line through the last one and you're done. (one end open, the other end with
a shackle to connect at the end of the boom).

Oh mercy- did I plunder! The rollers are not for sheets- but for
halyards... don't look at my red face!

Hi

You should have a topping lift. I use 6mm braid on braid and about 24 metres
long. Made off at the mast so you can lower or lift the boom.

Lealea, V1860, came to me with a wire strop (Non-adjustable) for a topping lift which I removed. I went up the mast in a bosun's chair and rigged a block at the masthead and reeved a 3/8 inch line that can serve as a backup halyard. Piece of cake.

Aloha,

Aloha Wilhelm,

I can't speak for "all" Vegas, but my Lealea, V1860 had only the two masthead sheaves. There are fittings for blocks, forward of the masthead for the spinaker and aft for the topping lift, but no blocks or extra sheaves in the masthead, just the two for jib and main halyards. Lealea still has the original Proctor spar.

Hello Chuck;
guess I shouldn't have said that- I forgot to mention that I installed
the extra sheaves
for that purpose- but I do have the original Proctor like you do.
