Lifeline

I bought recently an O'day 23 and I'm restoring it. This O'day has a small balcony in the front and 2 stantions on each side for the lifeline. I find that the base of those stantions take too much space on the deck. I would like to change them. I would like also to install a "railing" at the back of the boat in order to install a BBQ and bring the lifeline up to the back. Does anyone know where I could find informations, ex.: internet sites, catalog order, distributors, books specialized on that subject ?

Lifelines

Normand - You can build an aft pulplit (or pushpit as some people prefer to call it) from parts your local marine supplier will probably have in stock. You might also try Minnie's Yacht Surplus - they have pulpits for Catalina 22's that you might be able to rig to work. Ask them for the dimmensions. As far as the stantion bases - the area of the base is directly proportional to the resistance the stantion will exhibit to lateral forces. I don't know if you will find smaller units that the ones you have, but I would consider using the ones you have from a safety perspective. If your local marine supplier cannot help you, drop us another line and will figure out dimmensions and make you a build sheet. Goodluck - Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Where to find Oday Parts

Check out this web site for Oday Parts. http://home.att.net/~oday/parts.htm I have full life lines on my Oday 23, including a stern pulpit. The good news is that I hang my ring life save on the stern pulpit and it is a good back rest. I am not that crazy about the stern pulpit on this small boat because I feel "caged in" by the life lines and stern railing, and it's a nuisance to work around, especially when coming up the swim ladder or trying to get to the outboard. Stern Pulpit

Normand You might try Rudy Nickerson of D&R Marine (508) 644-3001. I know he has them for OD25s but I don't know about a 23. Paul
