Lifeline Replacement

I have a 1999 Hunter 380 with lifelines that are obviously going on 24 years old. Everything I have been reading is that they are not safe now and need to be replaced. I received an estimate to have it "professionally" done, took gulp and have been looking at the Suncor "do-it-yourself" system. 2 questions...1) is it really necessary? I am a coastal cruiser..Maine to the Keys, up and down the ICR, across to the Bahamas and that is about it. 2) The Suncor system is about 50% cheaper. For anyone that has used it...is it safe?

Get a quote from Defender, when I did mine their price was about the same as Suncor and it was all assembled.

Replacing ours this fall with Dyneema and not installing a "gate" - less hardware and cost.

Helped @dLj finish off some Dyneema life lines so we could go sailing on the Chesapeake last may. They were a bit small for a good hand hold, but they served the purpose and were plenty strong.

1/4 or 3/8 is over kill strong but better as a hand hold.
On my boat I had West Marine give me a bid. 316 bare wire, $660 includes all hardware, machine swaged. Open gates with dyneema fittings that I finished. Done in 10 days.

I like the bare wire set up.
