Lifeline netting

When I bought my boat four years ago a previous owner had installed netting. I needed new lifelines, and the old netting was shot, so when I had the new lifelines run, I thought great, now I can get rid of that damn netting. Problem is that the Admiral likes the netting so I had to install new. It's a tedious job at best, and without any real instructions it's sort of trial and error. After about four hours yesterday I had one side done, but I finally hit on a method that will allow me to do the starboard side in less than half the time. If anyone is contemplating netting, I'll gladly share my method which will maybe save you some time and headache.

timing is everything

timing is everything! I would love to know the method. I will be putting the netting on our 1981 hunter 27 for the first time thanks to an addition to our family. :) Where did you purchase them? I have looked at West Marine and read the reviews which were not great. What was the method?

Congratulations on your addition

I'll post it first of next week. I've written out the procedure, but I want to include some photos, which will be worth a thousand words. I got mine from Mike's Marine Supply in St. Clair Shores, MI. -- made by Johnson Marine. They are heavy nylon and knotted, not like the lightweight stuff West Marine is selling. The size of the diamonds is quite a bit bigger than the West stuff as well, which will make less of a wind resistance issue.

life line netting

Did you purchase a "kit" or did you have to buy the netting and hardware seperate? I noticed they sell the netting in rolls. I am thinking of purchasing it sooner than later!

By the foot

You give them the length of the area you want to cover, and the height of your lifelines, and they refer to a table to determine how much to cut off the roll. There isn't any hardware. Just the netting, plus I bought 3/16" nylon braided line to secure the bottom to the rail.
