due to concerns from the admiral, i must install a life raft aboard my 28.5. I came across a deal on a viking 6 man in hard cannister (rather big) and wonder, has anyone attached a life raft to the deck...not much space on a 28.5. What has been your experience...pros and cons.
Thanks
Were do you do your sailing? Here on Galveston bay the average depth is only about 12'.... The beam of my boat is 12.5' ..."Hint,Hint" What type of sailing to you do? Sounds like she only lets you go out in fair weather anyways..Please...No insults intended here.....Your bio says Palacios , Between there and the ICW and Port o Conner the depth is about the same maybe much less right in front of the town waterfront say 6' ..... I know because when we sailed out of there on the Mac26 racing , cruising etc.... It was quite common to just let the swing keel drag. So unless you go much farther or so into south Matagorta Bay past the ICW and actually out into the Port o Conner channel

and into the Gulf into the Matagorda triangle

:naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty:. Remember that Coast Guard Station is located right there on the ICW in Port o Conner for a reason.
That been said..... I prefer the ICW myself , much more protected water and good mud banks to park if you have a problem to solve. Lots of native wildlife and places to check out , Army hole,Freeport,San Bern,Cany,Port o Conner,Rock-port,Lydian Channel,Port "A",Corpus, and much more. All accessible via the ICW.
I would spend the money on a Good Dingy that could lay on the fore deck or just tow behind. If it makes her feel better buy her own personal spot GPS Locator she can were around her neck. Next keep a ditch bag always handy and put her name on it...... I will always remember being told once by an experienced offshore sailor..." You Never want to step down into a Life Raft You do everything possible to keep the mother-ship afloat first and when all else fails then you step up into the life Raft.
BTW... How is the old Inn doing? Are the rocking chairs still out on the front porch? Great town to bicycle around, neat water front and old homes. Is that :stirthepot: awesome Mexican Breakfast place still across the street from the Serendipity Marine/RV park?
