Acetone? Yow!

I would expect that acetone cut right into the casing. I had new lifelines done two years ago, and the only thing that I use to clean them is the same thing that I use on my hull. I use Meguire's "50" Cleaner Wax on a rag and they come out like new.

I cover mine

I gave up trying to clean them. I now cover them with the plastic shroud cover that West sells. It looks great and costs about $25

Acetone works for some

A little off the subject, but last fall I used acetone to clean the black, sticky goo off my old yellow AC cable. The cable came clean very easily with no after-affects from the acetone. When in doubt, try it on a small inconspicuous spot first. Ken, S/V Liberty

works good on the deck and the rub rail....
