Hunter 23 WIll be at a Navy base
I really appreciate all of your help everyone. I am getting all my parts together so when spring comes I will not waste time looking for parts. I took off one of my lifelines as it needs a gate. The line was vinyl coated and it is in bad shape. I was going to buy all the part and take it to a local marina that has the proper equipment. Does anyone have an idea where to get the lifeline. I have been searching and am coming up blank. The hardware I found, the wire I did not. The other thing I can not find even from local marinas is the plastic inserts that go into the holes on the stanchions. Any clue on either of these. If I can not find the sleeves, my other option is white electrical tape where the wire goes through the stanchions.

Thanks

Why go back to vinal covered wire, see my post re. using dynemma as life line or see practical Sailor story. Twice aqs strong and about 1/2 to 1/3 the price. The C.S. Johnson have the new style fittingthat work with fabric lifelines.

Dyneema lifelines?, Got curious about that and wondered about the UV stability of a Dyneema lifeline versus a vinyl wire. One thread (non-marine) said that constant exposure results in 80% of remaining strength after one full year of exposure. I'm thinking if you replace your lines every 3 to 4 years okay, but I think I would stick with wire. Guess I am curious enough to go read Paul1938's post

Cs Johnson says 3 to 4 years, but the non racers on my dock are do MORE for standing rigging as the strength of these is so much more than wire. I'm only using mine for life line and the 1/4 inch is 8000lb.
Some of the newer line has UV coating now. It's also much cheaper than wire. Read the practical sailor artical as well as the Oct or Nov sail one. The crical fail point you want is about 1200lb on the uprights, youy want them to bend, not to pull out of the hull!!
I used something called Splicving Nuts to make up my lifelines. Go to Google and found a chandler in San Deigo who had them at a good price. they have a 3000 lb wwork load
Have fun this winter

teacher;

Seco South orginally made all the rigging for the Hunter 23 to include life lines. They will be a good source for you and ask for Jean. Mention Crazy says hi. I have known that gal for over 30 years and she knows the ins and outs.

i took my old lifelines to west marine and had them duplicated. i chose to not make them myself because the swedge should be done by someone with the proper equipment. as for the nylon inserts.....i bought gromets at a local hardware that do the job perfectly
