Life Line Replacement

I have just received complete set of new lifelines for my 1981 27' Hunter. In removing the old lines I noticed that there were plastic inserts inside the stanchions which were obviously there to keep the stanchions from cutting the plastic coating on the lines. West Marine does not have these plastic inserts and I have been unable to locate replacements. Anyone have any idea where I might be able to lacte these since the new lines were pricey and would like to keep them in good shape? West Marine had rubber bushings that might work but I fear they would not stay put. Look forward to your reply.

Wire covers

I have used the typical white wire covers for this purpose in the past. These plastic covers are split so that they can be slipped over bare SS wire at locations where it is possible for the stays/shrouds contact canvas (bimini) or lines that could be chafed. West marine carries multiple sizes, usually in 5' (I think) lengths. Buy one length and cut to size.

Bushings

If you can't locate bushings what about plastic push in grommets as used in wiring. Available at most hardware stores. Push one in from either side then feed the wire.

They're called snap bushings

I found them at my local hardware store for about 0.25 each. I just replaced my lifelines and the bushings also. The only thing different from the original was the color. All I could find was black, and the originals were white. They look fine once installed. Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty
