Lido 14 boom vang

Recently bought a 1970 Lido 14 that needed a little work. I am about ready to launch but realized iy does not have a boom vang. There is a block on the boom and one on the floor in front of the centerboard bunk but nothing else. Can I sail without it and what will I need to complete the vang system?

You can sail any boat Without a Vang, i would not let that stop me from a single day on the water ! It is best to have one on some points of sail but don't let the lack of a vang stop you from going out.

A Lido 14 has just a simple 3:1 vang, so you should have a block with a becket on the boom (or a place to deadend the line) and a block toward the base of the mast and the block on the floor, or a double block on the floor. Also you should have a a cleat on the top of the centerboard trunk. You may just need the line. According to one online picture I saw people use a length of shock cord around the vang and back to the gooseneck to keep the vang out of the way when it is slacked.

You can certainly day sail without it.
