Help!!!!!

I purchased a Lewmar windlass wireless remote control (Model 68000844) for my Lawrence Simpson windlass with a reversing solenoid. The wireless remote will work fine as long as I use it within ten feet of the receiver unit. Unfortunately my boat is 42 feet with the center cockpit being approximately 25 feet from the receiving unit and it DOES NOT WORK. I called Lewmar and ask what the problem could be prior to sending the unit for repair they assured me that it was bad or loose wiring or motor interference and this unit was good up to 50 feet. I have several other remotes aboard and they all work great and I rechecked all my wiring moved the unit so the antenna was directly in line with my cockpit and still I have to be within 10 feet. I turned off everything but the 62 HP Yanmar and the windlass breaker which must be on for the windlass to work. It still DID NOT WORK so I sent it to them and they said it worked find but not at 50 feet and their specs now are good for only 35 feet. The unit was tested by bench method with electric meters and not with a windlass. Bottom Line it works on bench but not in boat and it is now my problem and the $150 I spent for the unit. I ask for a replacement unit or maybe a longer antenna and the answer was no! No! NO!
Now for my questions and comments:
Has anyone out there actually had this remote unit work? What distance? Did you have to send your unit back to Lewmar and was it fixed or repaired? Do you know of a wireless remote unit from another company that does work? Lewmar said move the unit closer to the cockpit which means within 10 feet. If I was going to do that I should just get a hardwired unit. Duh
MY RECOMMENDATION TO SAVE YOU GUYS MONEY DO NOT BUY THE LEWMAR UNIT!

Our Lewmar remote works fine from our cockpit, about 30 feet from the windlass and receiver. I'd try to talk to someone different at lewmar-they did apparently sell you a unit spec'd for 50 feet. it may also be something as simple as a fresh battery or move the antenna wire on the receiver.

Thanks for the information. I have personally check the remote batteries and even replace my house batteries and move the entire receiver and antenna outside of the bulkhead so I had a direct view from my cockpit. I assume that Lewmar also checked these batteries but who knows. The 50 feet range was told to me by Lewmar and I thought I had read that also but I can not find that range stated on Lewmar's literature. Even at 35 feet range and from my cockpit which is 25 feet it should work. Since I am stuck with it I will continue to play with it and see if I can get it to work. Is your antenna straight or looped etc?
