Lewmar Winches, Evo Vs. Ocean??

I sold my Macgregor 26S today so freed up some boat dollars to pour into my Cal 2-27.
One of my prime considerations is a pair of ST winches. Probably going to go with Lewmar 30ST but I'm wondering what is the difference between the Evo series and the Ocean series as far as construction and durability. There isn't a huge difference in price but the descriptions I can find even on the Lewmar website really don't tell me just what the difference is other than the Evo line is the new and improved series.

Didn't look up the specs but at least on the smaller sizes the Evo has a taller drum for the same overall height. Means you can get an extra wrap which I found necessary or the self tailer would slip on their small winch.

The guts are basically the same. The biggest difference with the evo vis-à-vis the ocean series is a request that boatbuilders made; it can be installed on a boat without taking it apart. A big time savings for the builder who used to have to take an ocean winch half-way apart before mounting it.

That sounds like a potential compromise for users ... additional maintenance of exposed parts?

Thanks guys. I think I'll go with the Ocean series, I just kind of like the way they look a little better.

Nope. Everything is done from the bottom. On the Evo, you can mount traditionally like the Ocean (opening it up, removing some gears, and bolting the base down), or you can affix 'fast fix' studs to the bottom of the out-of-the-box winch and plop it in place.
