removehtml]Hello all, I have a question about my lewmar winches... the main on the port side appears to have a plastic piece loose on it. it appears there is a small piece of plastic under the metal self tailer helper and on the port this is loose. the result was that the piece would follow the rope and eventually end up pushing the rope off the pinching plates on self tailer.... Anyone experienced this and know what piece this is and if its a normal spare part ? I had a look at lewmar site but its not obvious what part it is. I think I'll also go over them and clean while I'm at it, anyone have a tip to make that fast with good result ? thanks GauteError: Error: expected [/URL], but found [/removehtml] instead[/removehtml]

I think

It sounds like the stripper ring. Try looking at this sight for a schematic of your winch, winch_schematics.htm?L+scstore+snsv8569ff1c601c+1200249077 - 27k - Or Google Lewmar winch schematics for other sites.

easiest repair so far

I replaced the stripper ring today and also got a winch maintenance kit so I can clean the winches, when the weather improves :) replaced the stripper ring though and that was a breeze, turns out the one on there was broken and tyhe tap all worn out. I'll keep an eye on this from now on as its falls into the "have a spare of these" category

Maintenance

You'll also find this to be pretty easy. Just take it slow and watch out for those tiny springs. Last time I did mine, everything went well ( I took them apart on the boat and took them home for cleaning/lubrication) until I dropped one of those springs on the basement floor. Still haven't found it. Hope the kit you got has a couple of extras.
