Would like to convert my Lewmar model 44 main haylard winch to push button 12 volt. Can this be done?. I understands Lewmar has been working on a 12 volt conversation kit.

He was on my boat about a year ago and mentioned that all my winches (4 #48s and 2 #44s) could be retrofitted with motors. I told him that Wonderblond, the wife, was still young enough to grind those babies.

I can see electric winches for a primary winch but on a halyard?????? If you have trouble with the halyard what do you do for the Jib sheets???

Nowdays..
..many new boats sized 36 feet and up have the option for electric main haylard winch .Lewmar has an 12V electric add-on kit for most 'ocean' range , even smaller than mentioned , if there is enough room under it. Just make sure the sliders run free on mast track , otherwise one might break them with powerfull electric winch.
