Hello List Members,

There is a Lewmar traveler on our boat that appears to have a continuous line to move it from side to side. The line seems a bit too stout for the jam cleats at each end of the track. I attempted to remove the ends of the track, but stopped because I did not see a clear way to remove the blocks and the part they are on.

I have a poor picture, but have no numbers from the traveler. The boat is a 1986. I do not have an instruction book for the traveler either. All I do have is a need to change the line! Although it doesn't affect the work on the traveler, I have rerigged the mainsheet and removed the boom vang since this picture was taken about two weeks ago.

Note: Yes, we did leave the tape in place for too long after painting and varnishing. Don't you just hate when that happens? It was difficult to remove even though it was the blue tape for painting.

Can anyone help with instructions to dismantle this traveler and change the line that seems to be clamped onto the car where the mainsheet is attached?

Thanks, Phil

Are you saying you can't find the ends of the traveller control line?..... they're either tied to the car.... or on or near the end blocks. You shouldn't have to remove any hardware to change out the control line..... but a better picture would help. You will find plenty of resources with a quick google search... as in lots of pictures of differnent model systems..

Thanks for your question, Joe. I should have described the line as a single line, not continuous. The line is too thick to move easily through the blocks and fit into the jam cleats at the ends of the track. The line's ends are at the usual places where they can be grabbed to move the center car.

Problem: How can I dismantle the center car to change the line to a thinner diameter? The line seems to go through a part of that car and seems to be clamped in place. It definately is not tied in place there. I thought I might need to remove the end stops so the center car could be slid off the track and dismantled. I removed a rubber end cap, three machine screws, and a tiny threaded stud from the end stop, but that did not loosen the end stop .

I was hoping for a response from someone who has changed the traveler line so they could explain the process. I do not want to dismantle the system without having an understanding of what needs to be removed. I am 2+ hours from the boat so I posted the best picture I had.

 All might be well.......

I sent an email to the customer service division of Lewmar and received a reply early Monday morning. I was asked to send a picture of the traveler and was given an explanation of the removal process in short order after they received my picture. Could not have expected better service!

Will attempt to repair when I get to the boat on Thursday.
