Lewmar folding wheel

Not sure if anyone else has found the standard 32" wheel too small and hard to reach from the side of the cockpit when sailing but for me this was on my short list of improvements I wanted to make. We got a "good" price on the Lewmar 40" folding wheel at the Miami boat show so we went for it...got it installed last week and test sailed it this past Sunday.....the bottom line is I love it, worked great in some heavy seas going out Ponce Inlet and really allowed me to get to the side to see the headsail. The factory leather wrap is nice also!

I do but I just attributed it to my unusually short arms. I always have to get my sleeves altered!! I only had the 24" wheel on my C30 to compare it to so I figured it was just me.

Maybe it's time to look toward an upgrade. I may wait until the boat show to get the "good" price too, though!

They are expensive so it pays to shop around....we paid $600 vs. Close to $800 at West Marine.

I think a standard 36" wheel would allow us to still open the port lazarette but have yet to try it. I have a fixed 40" wheel I have used in some races, but you can't open the locker.
