I have Lewmar 40ST two-speed winches on my 1984 C-30. Anyone know how to get the last two gears out of the winch body? Once I removed the main shaft assembly, these two stacked gears moved around but I couldn't get them out. There is a large gear over a smaller one with a pawl assembly inside. (This has to do with the high/low gear selection depending on clockwise/counter clockwise rotation.) It seems that the top gear has to be lifted so that the smaller (lower gear) can be removed first. Only then, will the larger gear move downward and be able to fit in the slot to be removed. I sprayed teflon lube in the assembly but I'm sure there has to be a way to remove them for proper cleaning and lubrication.
