hunter 25.5 KEY LARGO
I dug into my new hunter 25.5 today. I previously had managed to unscrew and break free the pop top only to find that the mechanism which holds it up is gone!

So if anyone has a spare around somewhere...

Pics will come soon

Anyway, Today i dissambled the dinette and benches and took out the floorboards. oh my god what a bunch of gunk was under there.
Its a good thing i got the pop top unglued cuz i had to shift it forward to get the main floor board out.

I threw the boards and the cushions in the dinghy and into shore i went.

after dropping them off I went back out and spent the rest of the day bleaching every surface forward of the companionway. It takes a lot of time to get in all those nooks and crannies but i live aboard and the last thing i want is to breather mildew and black mold so it was time well spent.

There were considerable stains so alot of time was spent with scotchbrite getting those out.

I finished the forward vberth just as the sun was setting. Some body had painted the boards an ugly peach/tan so tomorrow they are going to go light gray after some much needed sanding. I am also going to paint the bilges light gray. In between coats of paint Im going to Mr, clean the interior next for that oh so fresh smell and work on some more of the stains with soft scrub. plus finish up the bleach job in the aft berth.

The bulkhead is rotted at the bottom and where the chainplate attaches so ill prolly replace that in a week or so as well as the bulkhead in the aft berth area.

Oh the joys of boat ownership!

Ain't it fun! At least you are on the water. A bunch of us would trade that work for you to come here and shovel our snow.

Thats true ed! notice my workshop pic.

Ah so i finally got some pics. rather than up load them and be really photo heavy they are on my shutterfly site. http://ghostwriter247.shutterfly.com

as you can see she was a little in need of tlc. and someboady had painted the floor a god awful peach tan.

When i took up the floors the under parts were not painted and they were pretty much rotted. some of the pictures show the mildew and the dirt.

a few later pictures show everything as shiny and clean as only clorox and water can do

Only in the florida keys is your workshop a tiki hut!

I cut new floorboards and sanded the bench pieces as they were still good.

On to a coat of nice nautical gray. I then went back out to the boat and hand sanded the piece i couldnt get out as well as the hull liner that had been painted. Man did that suck!

Tomorrow ill get pictures of the post paint. The bilges got a nice coat of nautical gray as well.

As you can see the bulkhead has rotted below so that will get replaced in the near future. I love it when a plan comes together. Stay tuned.

Ah, blue skies, warm breezes! I suppose somebody has to have it! My buddy let me build a 14' wide addition to his pole barn for winter storage, renovation, loafing, dreaming. The top 2' of the walls are made up of clear panels for light. steel for the roof and sides. On a sunny day, it can just get above freezing. A space heater makes the cabin comfortable for projects.
Enjoy your rehab time and don't get discouraged when you discover more things need done when you expose them to the light of day. ALL boat time is quality time! I tell my friends that I enjoy my boat year round. Sailing it all summer, working on it all winter.
Good luck and keep the pics coming. You're doing great!

Enjoyed the pictures, keep 'em coming.

I've got the same boat, 1985 25.5 with the same leaky chainplate.

Take some pictures when you tear out that bulkhead, I'm going to be doing the same repair soon.

Good Luck
