I own a 1978 Hunter 30, that was missing all engine components except a portion of the prop shaft, and the original prop. I have since purchased a used YSB12, new cutlass bearing, stuffing box. The only thing I need to order now is the new prop shaft, I know the diameter (1") but do not know the length. Does anyone have that info? And or could refer me to a good shop that can manufacture one for me? The boat is located in Annapolis Maryland. Thanks for all your help.

You might want to check with Allen at Tolchester Marina, which is just up the bay on the Eastern shore. Tolchester replaced my shaft on my 1979 Hunter 30' YSM12 last season.

I had a 1980 H30. The original shaft was manganese bronze and was 49" long. When I had the shaft replaced, they used a 50" X 1" stainless steel shaft. Part of the length issue depends on which engine you have and where it is placed in the engine compartment. My boat had a Yanmar 2QM15 that I suspect was larger than the standard 1 cylinder, hence the shaft extended further past the strut. There was still plenty of room. There was about 12" from the strut to the forward edge of the skeg. With the shaft in place, I had 6" from the prop nut to the leading edge of the skeg.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that responded to my post, I am still restoring the boat and it is getting very close to completed. Just need to complete the rebuild on my transmission and install the motor in the boat. Attached is a current photo with the new prop shaft installed, and bottom painted and ready.
