Hi Alisdair
That is just the user experienced data I needed.
My second anchor like yours is a 10kg CQR with 10 metres of 8mm chain and lots of rope.
My boat is at home in Largs Marina. (More money than sense!!!!!!)
I sail the Clyde and will this year be going up the West Coast with Orkney the objective if I can fine crew. As I am retired and have no ties the whole summer is my oyster. May/June are the best months in this cruising area but I will see what the weather brings (too much wind) in July / August)
Any one interested in Crewing please contact me. (david@...)

Subject: RE: [AlbinVega] Length of 6mm Anchor Chain
Hi David,
I've been using the same 25lb CQR on 6mm chain for 20+ years on the West of
Scotland and I've been happy with it. Very rarely do I let out as much as
30m.
The tides around here may move fast, but the range is only a couple of
metres so you can afford to anchor fairly shallow.
In the worst of conditions (maybe once every two or three years) I put out a
kedge, which is another 25lb CQR with 5m of chain and the rest rope.
If things get really dire (once every ten to fifteen years) I'll put down a
diving weight belt as a kellet.
Where on the West will you be?
