Time to re-sheet my 25.5, I would like to order different colors but don't know the correct lenghts. Also,I'm new to sailing and don't know how to make the ends of the lines (connections to the hardware) loop.

Loopy lines

Hi Tim, The best advice I can give in reference to the hardware at the end of your sheets is to have a professional rigging shop do the work; I had the shackles attached to the end of my halyards by my local West Marine outlet. It was reasonably priced, took about a week to get them back, the work was top notch, and (best of all!) I didn't have to mess with it. I also don't have to spend any worry wondering whether or not I did it right. Once you have the new sheets installed, you can pick up a book on line splicing, and practice with the old sheets- That way you can learn the skill in case it becomes important later- like when a line breaks while you're miles away from the nearest rigger. Good luck! --Jon Bastien H23 '2 Sheets to the Wind'

New sheets

If It were me,Id measure my old ones, length and diameter and use same. For the jib sheet, use one continous line (winch to clew to winch) and fasten center at clew. push center of line thru clew hole, then bring rest of line thru it and tighten, pass port and stbd thru blocks and put figure eight knots in end. For mainsheet, attach line to mainsheet block with a bowline (visit library for info) reeve thru boom block same as original and end at mainsheet jam cleat. Tie figure eight in end of line. I have found this to be simplest way, and can be easily done by owner. Good luck red

3 methods, all work.

Tim, Line length should be a little longer than current assuming current length is giving you no problems. Eye splices - You can buy a kit from West Marine and others which comes with all you need (including instructions). I've done this but haven't as yet taken the plunge. Add about 8-10 feet per line for eye splicing beginer mistakes. Lashing - This is my current method and I'm getting good at it (even fancy). Buy a book and lashing cord and follow the instructions. Knot - This perfectly valid method is widly used espically by racing boats. It allows quick removal of very expensive line for storage out of the elements. Good luck Greg
