This weekend we looked at a Legend 43 that appears to be in excellent condition, is priced well, and is fully loaded and ready to go with a lot of recent upgrades. Our only real concern is that its mast has been cut down by 4 feet to make ICW transit easier. Whether this is a good modification or not, it certainly differentiates this particular boat from its sister ships which makes me wonder what the effect of this on future resale value might be. The performance hit is also a concern - it may not be that big of an impact, but it definitely wouldn't have helped light air performance. To undo this modification would be a very expensive proposition ($15-20k?) by the time the mast, standing and running rigging, and sails were all restored to original spec. Because of that, it's probably something that will stay as is for the life of the boat. So I'm curious what other people's impression of this modification is and whether it would give them pause if considering this boat?
