Hello again,
I wonder if any owners of sister ships have the subject original manuals. I have a 3 inch thick original manual, PO left on board, but nothing on the subject. Both units are Adler-Barber units with cold plates and Danfoss BD3 compressors. I was googling quite a bit without much success. Any input will be appreciated.
Regards
Frank

Thanks, useful but this is for newer models with evaporators, our were with cold plates and older compressor models.

I have all the original manuals for my 40.5, but nothing in there re: refrigeration.

Thanks Rick for checking, find it pretty surprising that they would not include something on quite an important equipment.
Here are couple of pictures of the refrigerator compressor unit, cannot see a specific model, Richard Kollmann (I had some exchanges with a couple of years ago) identified the compressor as Danfoss BD3, probably their first model for R134a.

FWIW, I had a tech replace my R12 with 134 about 10+ years ago. That was wrong, and they replaced that with 408 (?). Regardless, it failed. The subsequent tech and Kollman later confirmed that it was NOT compatible with 134. I replaced that (refrigerator) unit with a Seafrost with which I have been very satisfied. The freezer is the original AB unit that has been on 24/7 for 30 years. It's possible that during the 40.5 production run that they changed the model of AB units installed, but I would tread very carefully.

Thanks Rick for your input. My freezer, knock on the wood, works without a hitch since I have the boat. The fridge is working but it looks like it has a slow leak somewhere, I hope to find sometime soon. In the meantime I have to add a couple of shots of R134a once or twice a season. I like to have manuals for reference on most of the equipment.

One more on refrigeration, I detected, by a just bought halon sniffer, a leak around the compressor connections seen in the second picture posted in this post. I wonder if anyone knows how to tighten these old style Aeroquip connectors without twisting the soldered tube fittings. Thanks

I just finished reading the manual, useful information, these units use R-12 and evaporators. My 1995 40.5 is using R134a and has cold plates (fridge and freezer) with connectors on top, instead of evaporators directly connected to compressor.
It looks like AB changed their systems after 1993 and before 1995. I wonder which of the 2 systems have other 40.5 owners. Thanks.
