Hunter Legend 40.5 732 Punta Gorda
Good morning All,

I recently purchased hull 752 and interested in replacing the flush-mounted frameless hatch lens. Does anyone know the vendor? Are the lens easy to get or are they special order? What material was used in fabrication?

Thanks,

Jeff

My understanding is that Hunter fabricated those hatches that are molded into the deck. I would expect that replacement would be as simple as taking one of each size to a plastic shop that cuts acrylic panels. I think the lens are acrylic and not plexiglass. Matching the tint might be more difficult.

You could also call Marlow Hunter and see if they can cut new lens for you. They could have the original design dimensions.

I had all my fixed and opening ports replaced. What area is your boat located?

Thanks Rich, I have been following forum for last 3-4 months since we decided to go with the 40.5. I have read most of threads referencing our boat but was curious if you have any new "ideas," things to look for or do to the 405. We will use the boat as live-aboard next winter and short weekend cruises the rest of the year. The boat appears to be in "Original" condition as far as equipment goes.
Electronics are due to be replaced soon. I would like to upgrade the chart plotter first to a 9" MFD. Curious about installing NAVPOD large enough to hold MFD on the short binnacle post on pedestal?
The boat is dry in most locations. I do have the mast step leak everyone talks about. It is only in the strongest of rain though. A couple of the opening ports leak too. not bad though. On my Catalina I stopped all my port leaks by replacing the "O" ring in the latch dog handle. Does this hold true with our opening ports too? Catalina used Lewmar opening ports.

My boat does have electric winch for main and electric head -2 big selling points for me. SAils are original but are in decent shape. The below-deck furler seems to be a little finicky though - not sure about this setup yet????

Thanks for your help,

Jeff

Hey Rick, I am in Punta Gorda, FL. I was thinking about doing what Rich suggested. Just having some cut locally? Maybe easier and cheaper.

And now a word from the sponsor...
Cabinet catch for many Hunters

These catches were common on Hunters from the Legend-era through today's Marlow-Hunters. We keep a large stock on hand for emergency shipments or just getting spares.

The short binnacle has a couple problems. First it is too short to hold a large Navpod. Secondly, the spacing of the vertical posts are not standard for Navpod. A few years ago I added a RayMarine chartplotter/radar - RL80CRC and a large Navpod. I had a custom 1.25" binnacle made to hold the Navpod and instrument. It had to be cut and welded to be able to fit in the existing table holes and then become wider to fit the Navpod. I will post a picture when I can but my computer with all my pictures crashed and I don't have access yet.
Regarding the mast leak: I have one too and it is driving me crazy to stop it. No joy yet.

They are acrylic. You need to figure out how to hold them in place while the butyl rubber sealant hardens (couple of days for fresh stuff). I noted that there are holes along the perimeter of the window which I use to hold down the window. Note: acrylic has a VERY high expansion coefficient and you don't want to restrict it with the screws used to hold it in place. Key is doing your install in the morning so the screws are compressing the plastic as the day warms up. If you do it during the heat of the day the forward corner screw WILL bust out the plastic as it cools during the evening.
