I would like to purchase a companion way bug screen for my Hunter 1991 Legend 37.5. Unfortunately, the Chandlery does not know for certain which one of the four sizes they offer fits my boat. Does any 37.5 owner have any experience with these screens? Thanks in advance for the help.

Custom Screens

Steve, A very simple way of making companion way screens is to get the aluminum tracks from Home Depot and just make a custom size to fit. You can make 3 or 4 to slide into the upper portion with the hatch open to various positions. Make the front in 2 sections to match the Lexan sections you already have. Cutting the front section is the only tricky part of the project. But if you have a chop saw or miter box it works fine. You can use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat up the corner pieces to make them fit the non-90 degree angles on the lower sections. Works great. Takes up very little space for storage. Why not use mesh and Velcro?

A boat I once owned had a companionway bug screen made of soft mesh, bordered in Sunbrella that matched my deck canvas. There were canvas snaps at strategic points (corners etc)...velcro "sealed" it down. For storage, it could be folded into a very small package. My deck hatch screens were made the same way, but without any snaps...just velcro around the hatch frame.

Steve, did you get my e-mails...

.. in answer to your questions to me about replacing holding tank in the H37.5? I sent 2 e-mails (one v. long) but never got replies to questions back to you, which leads me to think you didn't get them, maybe wrong address. Let me know--my address is blmarin@erols.com--and I will try again. I have some useful info for you.
