I'm in Mexico and want to replace my two blade prop with a three blade. I can't afford the time and money (shipping & taxes) testing and trying out several props. I would therefore appreciate the input from what other legend owners are successfully using.
Currently installed is a 17 x 11 two blade on my yanmar 3gm30f with 2.61 reduction. I have had one fellow stating he uses a 15 x 11 three blade with good results.

I used to have a Legend 35 with a fixed two blade but it wasn't the size you quote that you have. I'd check to see if you have the right size two blade first. I'm not sure why you want to redo the prop but I never had a complaint about the way mine performed over the 16 years that I had the boat.

It`s the prop that was on the boat when i bought it. Problems I experience is, excessive prop walk, vibration above 2800 rpm, and no grab when I reverse. The mounts have been checked, and shaft aligned, along with a new cutlass bearing. The engine runs great.
All the recommendations I get are to replace the prop with a three blade to solve or reduce the problems I`m experiencing. Down here it`s dead calm 50% of the time and on your nose anytime your heading North it seems, nice to have a good cruising prop.

Don't know if it's going to help but my 34 with a 3GM30F and same 2.61 ratio was equipped with a 2-blade 15 X 15 RH. I went to a 3-blade for the same reasons you want to change. The prop shop recommended a 3-blade 15 X 13 RH and I followed that recommendation but was not happy as I could not get the RPMs to get up to max. I had it re-pitched to 15 X 11 and am real pleased with the results. Getting 6.5 to 6.8 knots in calm weather at 2650 RPM, and no vibration. Good control when backing up. Still some prop walk to port but much less than with the 2-blade. Good luck.

About 4 years ago I changed my 2 blade prop for my 35.5 to a 3 blade feathering. It is made by Kiwi Props. My experience over the years has been that it preforms very well. No prop walk in reverse, quick response when stopping the boat, no vibrations, and in a heavy chop it powers very well. It was also at a price point that was affordable. While it was more expensive then a 3 bladed fixed prop I was very concerned with the prop drag when sailing. Since it is feathering there is just a very little is any prop drag. Also, there is no reason to lock the transmission when sailing since it doesn't turn, thus starting the engine while sailing much easier.

I just picked up a Kiwi for my boat, waiting to be installed but I installed a 3 blade Campbell Sailor prop when I bought the boat to cure the conditions you describe. I am very happy with this prop and it can be had from West by North Enterprises in North Vancouver, BC Canada. With the Canadian dollar the way it is, You might get a good deal. I have friends with both and they like them very much. One Kiwi is on a Valiant 40. He swears by it.

I bought a 3 blade Campbell Sailor for my boat and have been pleased with the performance. The 34 and the 35.5 are very similar hulls under water and you might save money by getting a used fixed blade Campbell Sailor propeller. Mine is a 14 x 8.5, but it might be better to have up to a 14 x 11, depending on the strength of your engine. You are not going to motor more than hull speed, so if you are getting about 7 kts in calm water you are doing well. I motor at 2800 RPM to save fuel and get 5 kts, which is OK with me.

Both the local dealer through whom I bought my 35.5 and the person at sailboat owners.com advised that the boat was originally equipped with either a 16 X 13 two-bladed fixed prop or a 16 X 12 three-bladed fixed prop. I've ordered the latter to replace the original prop, whose blades have "sheared off". Will advise whether it works satisfactorily.
