Left over Cetol up for grabs

Having no prior experience refinishing teak and being someone who never fully grasped the concept of “a little goes a long way, I didn’t think twice when the salesman at West Marine handed me my Gallon of Cetol for my 15’ catboat and quipped “you must have an awful lot of teak to finish”. But it should have been my clue that I had just purchased much to much for my job.

Now I am left with about 90% of the gallon remaining and while I suppose I could go and purchase 500 sq. feet of extra teak, it would seem to make more sense to offer it to someone who a use for it.

So, if you are in the vicinity of Duxbury, MA, have a large amount of teak that needs finishing, and don’t feel like spending a couple hundred dollars on a full gallon of Cetol Marine Natural Teal, feel free to reply and I will get in touch.

I'd be interested. That's an upcoming project on my boat.

You might want to pick up some bloxygen. That and some quart cans might allow you to store it a little longer.

It kind of felt like this scene from a Seinfeld episode.

By the time I had put down the first layer I was very aware I had grossly misjudged things. If that's the worst mistake I make this year I'll be happy. The project was to recussitate a very pathetic looking Marshall Sandpiper that had been left outside in a yard for 15 years. Between the oxidised gelcoat and the teak, the builder had estimated it would likely cost around 3000-4000 to awlgrip the hull and an additional 2000-3000 to do the teak. Being the thrifty guy I am, I figured i'd give it a go. Worst case scenario I would still end up having to send it to the builder. I didn't have any knowledge of how to do it but the internet came through for me and I managed to do a half decent job for far less than the yards quote! So in the end, even the extra Cetol was worth it! Before and After attached.

Thanks! It was a mix of blind luck, the internet and maybe a bit of help from the gods of sailing.
