leaks

I owned an Oday 30 for years so had everything happen to it. I also had a centerboard. Is the centerboard leaking? If so it is cracked and water is getting into it. The board itself is just a fiberglass piece layered up and can crack and water will, if given any small crack, find its way into the interior through the barrier coats and gel caoat. This is a pretty easy fix since you can remove the board, fix it and put it on again. If however, the leak is in the trunk you will probably need to have this done by someone who knows what they are doing. I had a crack in the trunk, (it showed up weeks later after hitting a rock in the canal) and on the leading edge of the keel. Water, after awhile found its way into the inside of the bilge and I noticed every 5 minutes the bilge pump would run and pour out about a cup of water. Unfortunatly I noticed it while anchored at the Dry Tortugas, about 100 mile from anywhere and a planned week long stay followed by a week at Key West. I did manage a patch for the 2 weeks and it held somewhat until I returned home about 2 weeks later and had it fixed. ( my wife was not very happy though knowing we were taking on water) Oh well, part of it. Good luck with your ODay. I got a lot of use out of mine. Terry
