In search of my next boat Palm Harbor, FL
My leech line came loose today, and the lower 1/3 of my main started flapping. I never gave it much thought before, but how tight should I pull it? It make sense that it should be tight enough to stop the flapping, but it seems to make the sail "cup" along the foot. Suggestions?

Oh it's a H22.

You are correct, just tight enough to stop the flogging. That changes with different wind speeds and different sailing angles. It's not just a matter of tightening it once and forgetting it for the rest of the days sail. For this reason I had my leech line lead to the gooseneck where it can be adjusted on any point of sail. Typically on a reach or run the leech line will need to be loosened but with the boom hanging over the water the typical leech adjustment is not accessible. Moving it to the gooseneck makes it accessible ALL the time. Unless you've discovered another sail control there is no way the leech line should affect the foot of the sail. That is under control of the outhaul.
