I just converted all the lights on BOB with warm white LED lights. I didn't find festoon-style LED's, so I bought some warm white 24 LED lights on eBay and soldered them on burned out festoon bodies. They are a bit brighter than the incandescents, and take 1.2 watts instead of 10 watts each. I'm still puzzled how they can ship these from Hong Kong via airmail and still get them in my hand for less than $4 each. I received them 10 days after ordering.

Hello Bob:

Tha's fantastic. I have new one's that Russ mounted in the last 2 years and have been thinking of upgrading to LED when it's time again.

By the way, we will start next week with reupholstering and cushion replacement as well as resurfacing all countertop surfaces with a granite look-alike epoxy faux finish. I went to see my friend's boat last night who does the remodeling profesionally and his Hunter looks like it's brand new. They do a great job. We are planning to use a caramel color pleather material that looks and feels like the real thing.

While this is being done, a new coat of varnish will be applied to all interior wood and sole redone. I have shades that will go up when we are finished.

She will look very pretty and fresh in a couple of months.

I will contact Japan later and inquire with photos on hinges and latches. I am sure it will be $$$ but worth it.

Regards,

Ed,

Sounds like you're going to have a boat in showroom condition--I should come visit some time. How about posting some pix?

I've bought hinges and latches from Yamaha, and I thought they were not particularly expensive compared to their equivalents at the marine stores.

Regards,
Bob

Hello Bob:

I am so glad to hear that. I was worried that they would want $150. per hinge or something along that price.

I am getting pictures of the before, and later the after. I have to say that Russ took excellent care of the boat all the years he owned her.

You have a standing invitation to visit us when you are down in San Diego. I would love to get you Russ and me together.

All the best,

Ed Serra

Aloha,

Thanks for the invite. I'd love to drop in on you sometime.

I lived and worked in San Diego for a while one summer. Part of the time I was at Pt. Loma, which was somewhat heavenly. The other place was Kearny Mesa, which I imagine was a bit more like the other place. (I'm a cool weather fan.)

A few years ago, my daughter and I stumbled across your St. Patrick's Day parade. It was just dumb luck--we were looking for a place to have breakfast, and picked a spot on the parade route. Had a great time.

Is that bakery in Julian still open?

Hello Bob:

Had a chuckle reading your email.

Yes sir, Julian backery is very much in business and selling the best pies in this area. They have local outlets reselling them in various spots. I get mine in Carlsbad.

The boys were on the boat today, taking measurements for the foam and fabric. I can't wait to see it finished.

I will start getting my picture gallery ready.

Best regards,

Ed

I am really interested in the granite faux epoxy idea as I have been considering actually replacing the countertop in the galley of my Hunter 27. the Epoxy solution sounds interesting, so could you give me some info on where to get it, installation, and possibly pics?
Thanks in advance!

Hello and Happy New Year:

The work was done through a friend. All I know is that the product is a multistep process and that the company that makes it is in Florida. The results are fantastic, check the pictures we posted.

I am now into finishing the rest of the upholstery and other upgrades. For spring, want to change port glass and if I can ever get a reply from Japan, change some of the hardware in the cockpit.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Regards,

Ed Serra

Found the Faux Epoxy Finish System

Hi Ed,

Thanks for your reply, and WOW loved the pics of your interior, she really looks great!

I went on a quest to find a epoxy finish kit for the counter tops and I think I found the real deal. It was featured on a morning show and they actually demonstrate the process. It is incredibly affordable, and really easy to do. Here is a link to the video, and I will be jumping on this while our boat is out for upgrades.

Indeed your boat looks terrific, and I hope we can make some of the same improvements to make our surfaces look as sharp as yours.

I will post some before and afters, wish me luck my friend.

WOW, this is very cool. It is not exactly what we had done but very cool.

If I had to do it again I would give it a try. Please post results if you go through it.

Ed Serra
