LED bulb for masthead light?

There are several LED masthead lights now on the market to replace the entire masthead light assembly. The markings on the base of the bulb in my mastnead light are unreadable, does anyone know what number bulb the standard masthead light for the 26s uses? Does anyone make a LED replacement for the std. bulb used in the masthead light?

LED Conversion

You have a good idea to replace the incandescent lamp with LEDs. In a 12 volt system, you will probably want to gang 5 LEDs per resistor max. There are several resistor calculators on the web, search LED resistor on google and you will find all the info you need. On Ebay, I like the seller ColdfusionX for LED suuplies. I am doing some of my interior with superbright red LEDs and mounts from his website. He also sells a digital voltmeter for less than $10 that will be a part of my electrical system upgrades (sensitive to a hundreth volt to see the effect of my solar panel). I saw a website once wherein the author had made a ring of LEDs and epoxyied them in place to replace a lamp but I don't know where that is now. Good Luck John S

Link to LED lighting for interior

Maybe this is the link John is refering to. It has good information on replacing interior lighting on a 26x with LEDs.

LEDs

Wow, that guy has some bright LEDs! My brightest LED is not nearly as bright by half, but his LEDs require 3.5 volts of forward voltage. There was another posted article wherein the guy had made a ring of LEDs for his anchor light that was encapsulated in epoxy and replaced his anchor light. Good info and a major savings in power. Thanks John S

More LEDs for a given current

One LED per limiting reisitor is cheap and quick, but most of the power ends up as heat in the resistor. The link shows a simple current limiter where you can tie two or three LEDs in series and the current will be the same even when the voltage goes up when the motor is running. Ron

Help with Schematic

Ron, Please help me understand this schematic. I think I know where you are going with this: using a transistor to limit current instead of power wasting resistors. But what would one ask for at an electronics store? I understand the code for resistors, but what kind of component do I need for this set up? And are the diodes in the schematics the LEDs I want to light up? Forgive my electronic illiteracy but I would really like to avail myself of this technology. Thanks John S
