Tired of the holding tank I have tried to figure out wher to find space for a Lectra San. Any advise please. Is there another similar devise on the market.

Jens; all of my SoCal USA cruising areas that control discharge do so only on a no discharge basis, so a USA type 1 system does no good. I note in the Defender catalogue that Raritan makes two versions and Sealand a third. Good luck. Rick D.

You can't get rid of the tank altogether...

There are too many "no discharge" harbors and marinas. But a Lectra/San is certainly the way to go in all other waters. It must be mounted on the same level or below the toilet, within 6' of the toilet. Many owners put it in a locker under the vanity in the head. As for other similar devices, there are other Type I treatment devices, but none that don't cost twice as much and/or require the use of toxic chemicals. The Lectra/San is by far the "pick of the litter." You can check out all the specs--including the complete installation and maintenance guide (owners manual) on the Raritan website at www.raritaneng.com And, of course, I'm always glad to answer questions.

There's only one version of the Lectra/San, Rick

However Raritan does make a similar device called the Pura/San for use in fresh water (the Lectra/San requires salt water). Instead of making chlorine naturally by charging the ions in salt water with electrical current as the Lectra/San does, the PuraSan comes with a chlorine cartridge through which the flush water flows. The cartridge lasts about a season...replacement cost is about $70. As for the SeaLand SanX...the price never includes the overboard discharge pump...that must be purchased separately, and you can't use an impeller macerator with it. It also requires the use--and storage aboard--of a nasty formaldehyde-based brew called TDX, that sells for about $20/gal at discount and only treats 4 cycles per gallon. Between the cost--of both the equipment and the chemical--and the environmental impact of the discharge, I don't recommend it. Defender does have the best prices on all of the above...but it's absolutely necessary to know what you're buying BEFORE you call 'em...'cuz they can only take the order, they can't give you any advice at all.

We put the LectraSan in the port hanging locker- aft. It takes the place of all those dress slacks we never wear! Good luck, Sandy
