Peggie, on a prior note you mention NOT to leave vhite vinegar sitting in the bowl. Why?

Two reasons...

1. The sole reason for flushing white vinegar (which is more acidic than cider vinegar) through the hoses is to prevent sea water calcium carbonates from building up in 'em. Sea water calcium carbonates don't build up in the bowl, only in the hoses...vinegar can't do anything for the hoses unless it IS flushed through 'em--ALL the way through 'em. And btw, a quart won't accomplish any more than a cupful...it'll just run out the other end and be wasted. 2. Leaving vinegar sitting in the bowl means the joker valve in the toilet is left soaking in it. Although vinegar won't harm soft rubber that it just passes through, when soft rubber (i.e. the joker valve in the toilet) is left to soak in vinegar, the rubber swells up and distorts. So leaving vinegar sitting in the bowl accomplishes nothing whatever except the destruction of the joker valve.
