My Beneteau 432 has a leviathan three bladed prop capable of pushingher along at 8 + knots no problem. When sailing I have noticed that I experience considerablespeed gains if I let the prop spin free in neutral rather than locking it in reverse. Has anyone else experienced this. The speed gains when I allow the prop to spin free while under sail are on the order of 1 knot plus. Note; this is with the engine off. Some sailors have suggested that transmission damage can eventually result from doing this. I know others who always let the prop spin. Anyone have any comments on this issue other than suggesting a folding prop.regards, Fraser
