My (e)33 has a sump pump dedicated to the shower and head sink drains. Can I leave this on all the time or should I run only when needed. Wanted to just know I leaving it on all the time would limit its life. Thanks!

Greg, it only runs when it needs to...otherwise it is off. Some people have put counters on the circuit to see how many times it has cycled and on their bilge pump also.

Thanks. But mine has a switch for it in the head compartment. Was wondering if it was okay to leave that on all the time.

On my 07 H-36 has a switch on the sink cabinet is is only used for the shower and is turned on to pump out shower drain only and ddoes not work auto and it will run all the time once the switch is turn on and needs to be tturned off when all the water is drained, does yours work in auto when it seensors water in drain.

My bilge pump has a switch with an on/off/auto & manual settings built into the switch (from West Marine). Any good bilge pump has a built in float switch, but I inhereted an older model that has a seperate float switch. The key is the control switch in how it operates.

Jim,
I'm interested in doing this - putting a counter on the bilge pump. What sort of counter have people used? where can I get one?

Sump Pump

I guess I misread you saying sump pump and i don't have a sump pump on my 07 H-36 just a direct pump for the shower only.
I guess Hunter went back to using a sump pump, maybe people were forgetting to shut off the shower pump when done showing and they could burn out running dry after a long time running.

We found out that without it permanently on there is a high risk of filling the sump and then overflowing into the bilges. As there is a level/float switch on our e33 we leave our permanently on so when the sink is used the water is pumped out.

I can see no reason for this switch not to be left permanently on. We switch our batteries off when leaving the boat, so the pump would not cycle unless we were on board.

We also always leave the sump pump switch in the on position. I will have to rethink this because during the sailing season we usually leave the batteries on and turn everything off at the DC panel. Although this was not our usual practice with our previous boat, we do this because the top loading fridge/freezer operates on DC only. The front loading fridge operates on either AC or DC.
