Learn minor fiberglass repair?

I have suffered a couple of gouges in my topsides. The first ones always hurt the most.I want to try to repair these myself for a couple of reasons. First, I work cheap. Second, this is a skill I would like to acquire. Third, if I mess up, I can always pay out a couple of boating units and have it redone anyway.Does anyone know of a source of information, step by step, with pictures on how to do this? How about a video?My idea is to practice on something over the winter before attempting the real thing.Advice??

Gel Coat Kit

The big problem is getting one of those gel coat kits that are made for everyonr except Hunters. In Seattle you have to buy a quart of the stuff. Anyone know where you can buy the small bottles?

Hunter sells gel coat kits

When I bought my 1999 H310, it came with a empty gel coat repair kit.When I called Hunter to ask why the kit was empty, they informed me that gel coat has a very short shelf life and if I ever need gel coat, just give them a call.As far as knowlage in doing the repairs,There are books out their on the topic. Being that I am a custom high end woodworker by profession, I have always like the watch and learn method, ask questions to the pro's, hang out at boat yards. All of this has worked for me and now, FRP and gel coat repairs are rather ez to do now.If you are good at tinkering, you should do well.Good luckSteve,s/v Obsession....

Marine-Tex is the stuff

Have found that marine-tex white is a very good match for gell coat repairs on our 83-H34. When sanded and polished you can't tell the repair from the original. Comes in two package sizes and is very easy to work with.Scott83-H34 Island Hops
