We motored the 60nm south to Eureka, CA in a very light southerly wind. It was an uneventful trip except for the thick fog. We planned it so we left Crescent City in daylight, about 1600, and arrived off the Humbolt Bar before dawn at 0400. We waited until 1030 to cross the bar on a rising tide near high slack water. It would have been a piece of cake but for the fog that limited visibility to about 150 feet, making for a good exercise in teamwork and coastal navigation.
Thanks to the VEGAtarians Walt and Judy Brown, Crescent City was bearable but the harbor there is primitive at best, though well protected from the weather. By contrast, the marina at Eureka is very nice with all the amenities, including free wi-fi, we could ask for.
According to NOAA radio, we will not have favorable winds again until next week and there are small craft advisories in effect now. Looks like we will have time to explore the town and catch up on email etc.
