Lealea floating again! Happy New Year!!!

We went back in the water today just before noon after slapping on a
fresh coat of Trinidad Blue. One last problem to fix: the riggers cut
the upper backstay two feet too short so I have a piece of line
holding the upper to the lowers temporarily. They closed up shop for
the holidays so they told me to tie up at their dock today and they'll
take care of it when they return to work on Wednesday.

Laura has to work until next Saturday so on Monday, weather
permitting, we'll exit Admiralty inlet and cross the strait of Juan de
Fuca to Friday Harbor.

Safe and happy New Year to all.

Hauoli maka hiki hou!

Chuck,
I was out in the J. de F. Straight sailing today ... the weather was
great, but there is another blow forecast for tomorrow.

I use a site called bigwavedave.ca for great wind predictions. They are
at Latest Reports - Windsurfing, Kiteboarding, marine weather, Victoria, Vancouver Island, coastal British Columbia, BC, Canada, windsurf, kiteboard, webcams, surfing, photos, kayaking If you move the cursor over
to "Forecasts" and down to "Wind Model" you get a graphic wind map of
this area. You can pick a time in the box at the top right, or click
on "SubDomain Loop" for a scrolling 'by the hour' wind forecast.

On my monitor there is no wind speed legend unless you scroll to the
bottom of the page then use the sideways bar to scroll right, then it
appears. Pastel colors are milder winds, solid colors are good times to
be at the pub :)

There is also an "Images" link at the top of the page, which is a sat.
photo updated every 15 minutes. At the bottom of the page is an
enhanced version ... very useful for checking for fog and cloud etc.

Have a great trip to Friday Harbor. Watch the currents in Cattle Pass,
they can spit you back out to the straight if you hit the tide on the
ebb. Don't ask me how I know that!

You probably already know about this, but the Canadian Hydrographic
Current Atlas (Current Atlas: Juan de Fuca Strait to Strait of Georgia) is a MUST have in this area.
If you get a set of Washburne's tables it makes it way easier to read.
You probably know about those too, but just in case .... :) Looks like
you have a good window on Monday 7th from 11am to 2pm.

Happy New Year to you guys too, and have a great journey.
