I just bought a 1985 37c. I was just wondering if anybody else has had any experience replacing the main salon windows on this model? Mine are leaky and hazed over. I looked in the archives but didn't find anything that could help me out. Also, does anybody know the size of the opening ports on this model? They seem to be about 6 x 13 but I don't want to rip them out till I have an exact replacement on hand. Thanks.

Try an archives search for "port lites", with only 37c selected. You'll get a lot of hits.

Morrie is right.

That topic ranks second to holding tanks when it comes to the H37C(or any Cherubini). I posted some pictures when I replaced mine but cannot find them. But I did find Terry Arnold's, click on Related Link. The sizes differed after 1982 so you should measure. You do not indicate which portlights, the opening or the non-opening. On my 1979 they all open but your 1985 has some fixed portlights. For the opening ones the hole in the cabin is the same dimension as the outside perimeter of the spigot(the frame that sticks out that people step on). I installed NFM's, ten of them, but probably would not do it again. ( http://www.newfoundmetals.com/index.htm ).

Remove the haze with

fiberglass cleaner/polish. I have the same boat and year as you. I've had it a few months and I am slowly repairing/cleaning a few things. All the opening deck hatches and the fixed salon portlights were severly hazzed (sp?) over, to the point I was going to investigate replacment of the portlights. When polishing the boat this past weekend, I said I can't do any harm and rubbed the polish on the exteriors of the hatches and fixed portlights. 90% improvement. I think I used a West Marine or 3M product, comes in a squirt type container, but nothing special.

Lots of info, but....

I did find lots of info in the archives but most of it was for the older models. I was hoping for somebody that had a few pictures and maybe the name of a supplier for the fixed side ports. I heard the name Mark Plastics in California, but wasn't sure if that pertained to the side windows or the opening ports. I was also hoping for the beckson or bowmar equivalent part numbers to replace my opening gray ports. Brian.

Bomar opening portlight part number

I ordered mine from www.sailnet.com last February. They were on sale at $64. The following is a cut and paste from their website. I believe this is about the least expensive place to get them. Good Luck! BOMG512-AD27 $78.95 Bomar Portlight 7 in. x 15 in. - White with Angled Clear Lens

Port Light Confusion

As I'm sure Brian will tell you, there is some confusion about the Port Lights in the 37 Cutters. I'm not sure what year they started, but my 1984 37C has the same Port Lights as Brian's. See attached photo. Note that they are not rectangular with rounded corners and do not open. Also note the one angled end on each of the two Port Lights. Scott is right about commercially available cleaners doing a good job, but can't help you, Brian, with the leaks.

That's my boat!

Yeah, those are the same ones that I have on my boat. I think that all the opening ports on my boat are the same size. Hopefully they are the same size as the Bowmar 512's. Those side windows are a problem though. I will try to polish them out and see if that helps with the hazing, but the leaks just won't stop. I am probably going to have to do a little more investigation though as I'm not sure if the water is coming from the windows or entering the cabin top at the mast or dorades. I do know that my mast boot is starting to deteriorate and needs replacing. Maybe that will fix the leak. I'll go shoot some water at the window this weekend and see if that helps. Thanks for all the other help.

Salon windows

I believe the fixed windows on all the Cherobini hunters came from one source. This was Go industries in Cal.,now the patterns and production is in the hands of Mark Plastics who are very good people to deal with.
