Leaky Ports on H28

I have a 1992 H28 that has four opening cabin ports. A couple of them have a slow drip when it rains. I have cleaned the rubber seal (which appears to be in good shape) and have tried tightening the two clamps as tight as possible to stop the drips -- with no luck. Has anyone removed some (say 1/16") of the backside of the bracket so the port will close more tightly against the rubber seal? Any other suggestions on how to prevent the drips? Thanks.

H28 leaky ports

My 92 H28 has had leaky ports from day one. I have identified 2 problems which cause the glass / gasket area to leak. One is the dirty gasket, which you said you fixed. Second is I found that tightening them down too tight makes them leak worse and just slightly snugged they don't leak. My thought is that I wouldn't try tightening them more by shaving off the bracket. I think that the angle of the ports is just enough to prevent them from draining outside. Maybe this season I'll try to make a lip on the outside with a small bead of silicone.

Hi Steve, we had a similar problem with...

leaky ports on our H28. Stop by your local swimming pool shop and ask them for a small bottle of liquid silicone. They use it to lubricate valve "O" ring seals. It has the thick consistency of cold honey. I first cleaned the port gaskets and then spread the silicone on the seal. The leaking stopped. Terry
