Leaky mast

I have a Hunter37 , 1981, Cherubini...I've had it for 14 yrs, and absolutly love this boat. However, I have not had much success in stopping the mast from leaking. I've slowed it down at times, but unable to stop it. I now live on it and it's driving me nuts! The last time I stepped the mast I used "SparTite" instead of wedges. Still, water finds its way in, pools around the inner flange and spills over!!...Has anyone seen a boot that is specifically designed for this mast installation?? GeorgeM:confused:

Your mast is aluminum. Probably doesn't leak. Water may be running down the sail track, but that can be caulked above the deck.

Water migrates in the core. Have you checked nearby harware like turning blocks and vang mounts? PO of our boat used 1" wood screws, no caulking to mount stuff on deck. After removing some and caulking others, we found what we thought was a mast leak turned out to be one of the bolts in the aluminum collar.

Do not understand "inner flange" George. Were the partners different from year to year? I don't get any water ingress at the seal. It just has the rubber seal that fits very tightly. Then I slather clear silicone on top. Ah, you mean that lower flange that the rubber seal sits on. Just hit me.

Along with the silicone I also seal the sail track just below the gooseneck. I still get water down the mast from a hard rain. There are just too many holes at the top. I think water wicks up the halyards and into the mast. But all my "leaks" go into the bilge.

I think the only real fix is a collar welded around the outside perimeter of the partner. Then a mast boot would work.
