Has anyone experienced water leaks into the aft compartment (battery area)? My boat has an outboard and tiller steering. I suspect the false floor that can be lifted out to accommodate wheel steering is allowing water to sneak in. I am planning to totally caulk this seeem with silicon. Anyone have similar experience???

Aft Leak

One area that I experienced a leak, and I've read others have too, is the hole where the cockpit table is placed. I believe that if you get water in there over the winter and it freezes up, it can expand and cause some cracking there. This then results in a leak that could probably run to the rear battery area, or in my case directly onto the rear birth. Quite annoying the first time I noticed it, at anchor, in a rain storm, at night, dripping on me! But it sure made tracking it easy. Look there and let us know what you find. T J

Leaking H-260

Mine leaks too Peter. I have not attempted to track the cause yet, since I'm still working on installing new gear while in "dry dock" waiting to have the bottom painted. (I am chomping at the boom.) It is dripping from the aft lower edge of the liner shell just inside and over the port side battery compartment door. The source could be nearly anywhere that the liner covers near the aft end. I too am looking for info on a probable cause and a fix. P.S. We have a 2001 H-260 and had a few minor issues concerning problems with the faucets, head leak, and a crack in the top of the rudder. Our dealer, Butch Berchem of Select Yachts (Denver NC) worked with Hunter and had a new rudder delivered within a few weeks. He also took care of the minor issues. Great folks to work with.

Check water ballast vent plug

Water kept showing up in the bilge and battery compartment when I first got our 1999 H260 and I looked high and low. Initially I thought it had to be coming from the aft deck to hull joint and I was not happy. Working with our dealer (Rooke Sails in Memphis, who is great) he and I finally figured out it was the vent plug on the water ballast tank. We tightened the plug and she has been dry ever since.
