Hi,

Is there someone else who experience leaks in the scoop stowage compartment. I looked at the cover seals and also the one from the propane compartment but they seems to be fine.

The only thing I see is where the hull meets the deck, which is hidden by the rubber bumper. Before trying anything that could be more damageble, does anyone here have seen this before ?

Thanks,

I have a 1997 h40.5 and I have also had water in the bottom of the scoop. However, each time the source has been my generator which is located directly above in one of the cockpit lockers. If this does not apply to you, I would check the following to determine the source.

First, check to see if the water is salt or fresh. If it is salt water, I would take a piece of chalk and mark a line on the inside of the scoop area parallel to the hull-deck joint. Then spray it hard with a hose. If there is a joint issue, you should see a washed-out area where the water is leaking. If that is dry, then you need to check elsewhere.

The engine exhaust hose is in this area. Is it leaking?

Verify that the shaft stuffing box is not draining to that area. In my h40.5 the stuffing box drains into the main bilge in the center of the boat. Yours may be different.

Check the rudder post and stuffing and see if it is wet. Again on my h40.5 the top of the rudder stuffing gland is well above the waterline so a leak is unlikely.

Those are the fast checks and possible sources. If none of these sources are confirmed, let us know and we will think harder on this.

I have (had) same issue on my 336. Probably only a couple of culprits assuming the leak is not up somewhere high say from rain getting in. First actually exhaust was leaking where hose connects to thruhull in starboard locker. Fixed and reclamped. Second, thank you hunter, yep the rubrail leaked a bit on the top right in the center. At its lowest point. It needed recaulking. I cleaned it out, dont remove the rubrail in the water, and applied a good marine sealant. Pretty much shored it up. The leaks do find there way to the bildge though.

Cheers

Same problem with my previous boat - 1995 H29.5 - essentially identical stern layout. Check the seal on the ladder attachment bolts and the seal on the boarding grab handles. These are easy to re-bed and I think that previous posters found their problems solved after this "maintenance item" was performed. The problem with the ladder can result in either salt or fresh leaks - or both because of the position of the attachment bolts.
