Don:There has been a LOT of discussion on this issue over the years. The track that the plastic slides on are open on both ends. The aft end (cockpit side) has a couple of holes that aid in the draining. Be sure these holes are kept clear at all times. If you think you really want to fix this problem, I would recommend that you completly remove the sea hood. This is going to be a difficult job to say the least. Once that has been removed you can move the companionway hatch to it's full open position and then plug the tracks on the forward end. Then you would just need to replace the seahood and recaulk it.Now if you are not up to the job, consider having a Sunbrella cover made for the companionway. We have a dodger and a cover both. When I wash the boat down I keep the cover on the companionway. This has just about eliminated the problems.
