if 1984 has the a-frame mainsheet system like mine did i would rig the mainsheet to lift motor and tranny into the cockpit (should be cake with the stairs and engine cover removed) then its a simple operation to lash a block to the end of the boom and use the main halyard through that to swing the whole lot off the boat and into a dock cart.

I am assuming a Yanmar engine ??
Typically, the transmission(clutch) has to slide aft about 3-4" to disengage the transmission input shaft from the flywheel mounted dampener. On many boats, that can be done by removing the control cable, unbolting the coupling, and loosening the motor mounts then raising the aft end of the transmission (sling under aft of engine block) to clear the coupling. It would be best to loosen (about one turn) the bolts connecting the flywheel cover to the flywheel housing before picking up the aft end. The transmission is mounted to the flywheel cover. The transmission weighs around 50 pounds.

Just did a tranny removal on my H30 and replacement. Yanmar 2qm15. Attempted the raise the rear end. No luck. Bolt on the bottom of the housing was too hard to access. Pulled whole engine and tranny through the companionway with a chain hoist and the boom. Could have completed in the boat at this point. If you need info contact me. It is all back together and several voyages done. God looks out for fools and sailors as I am not expert mech.
