How old is the toilet?
A PH II isn't a cheap "disposable" toilet that costs only a little more than a kit does...it's the top of the line in manual toilets, with a list price of nearly $500 now. It'll last at least 20 years if it's just kept well lubricated and rebuilt every 5-6 years.
So if yours is at least 5 years old, a rebuild kit for about $60 would be the best investment...'cuz it obviously needs at least two of the parts in a kit and also a joker valve (which should be replaced at least every two years)...those three items alone purchased separately are about 30-40% of the price of the kit...and you can be pretty sure that if it needs those three, it needs the rest of the parts in the kit. So for Pete's sake don't just replace a couple of the parts in a kit, replace 'em all...so you'll only have to take the pump apart ONCE every 5-6 years instead trouble shooting it every time it develops a new symptom caused by the part you didn't replace.
The PH II has been around for a couple of decades...preceded by the PH. There are two versions of PH II, each has a different rebuild kit. You need to be sure you get the right one, 'cuz only about half the parts in each one are interchangeable. The ones built before 6/92 need kit PHRKII...the ones made after 6/92 need kit PHRKIIC. If you can't figure out how old yours is, Vic Willman at Raritan can ID it for you...give him a call: 800-352-5630 x 6.
Rebuilding a toilet is easy...there are no step by step instructions...just pay close attention to the drawing, replace parts one at a time in any order that's possible, taking care to note where each piece goes and how it's oriented...and be sure use the little tube of grease that'll be in the kit.
