leaking ports

I am about to glass over the whole mess! We have been fighting leaks around the ports (non-opening windows) on both sides of the boat for some time. Specifically the three sternmost. Recently I removed the ports, disassembled the frames and glass, cleaned everything, located the best matching gasket I could find, reassembled the glass/gasket/frame, cut away the gasket on the outside of the glass( because the fit wasn't that good) and applied a professional glass silicone sealant to the glass/frame joint. I then reinstalled the assembly using a professional glass installation caulking tape( thick, sticky and mallable) between the frame and the cabin deck sides. When I secured the port by attaching the inside frame everything pulled tight and the outside caulking tape squeezed out a little around the frame like one would expect. We just had Tropical Storm Barry drop a bucket of water and three of the six leaked, AGAIN! What kind of ports are they( original), and how do I fix them from leaking ?

Or this...

Dan's idea looks interesting. Or, instead of "located the best matching gasket I could find" go to CatalinaDirect and get the real gasket. In fact they have newer more modern materials now than what came with your boat.

Maybe the windows aren't leaking?

You know, I just wonder if the new leaks are actually coming from the windows? If your C30 is built like my C25, there is no core in the turn from the coach roof to the sides where the windows are. Soooo, if something on the coach roof was leaking, the water could run between the core and the fiberglass mouldings, drip out at the windows and give the appearance of the windows leaking. The butyl sealant you used sounds like the frames are tight to the coach sides, so maybe the leak is either from between the glass and the frame, or somewhere else altogether. Don Casey says to use a leaf blower to put air pressure in the boat and soap bubbles to find leaks. Don't know if it works or not. Dan
