I would appreciate any information on the use of Spartite mast seal. Iam planning on using it on my Cat 42 this summer. Does it really stop the mast from leaking around the boot? Iam tired of sealing it with silicone every year.

Spartite

Greg, I've had the Spartite system installed on my C-38 for two years now. No, the Spartite system did not eliminate the leaks entirely. The mast to deck joint in my boat does not leak underway but weeps a little after a long rain. The leaks are caused by the normal working of the boat and are easily caulked using a small amount of sealant. Since the gap is full of Spartite, it takes very little sealant to stop any leaks that my develop over the sailing season. Plus, you'll never have the wood wedges fall out during a spirited sail. Spartite

Greg, I also have a C-38 with the Spartite and I echo everything Rod said. She is dry 98% of the time until a very long sustained rain and I get some drips. I have not resealed it with anything else yet..but it could make my list this year..haha Mike

nothing beats silicone

All in all nothing beats caulking with silicone... it seals 100%.. I've tried lots of other methods but this gives me the only seal woth a dam Try also sealing the pop rivet holes as as water runs down the mast into them too. Dan Smith, Reunion Hull 533
